Contact Principal at:

2013-2014 School year

Welcome to St. Matthew’s newly updated website.  I hope that you will find its pages useful in getting to know a bit more about our school.

This year promises to be an exciting time for us as we expand our dual-language approach to Third Grade and look forward to transitioning the Fourth Grade the following year.

We are most fortunate to have been one of twelve schools selected from all over the country to participate in a dual-language initiative spearheaded by Boston College and the National Catholic Educational Association (N.C.E.A.).  This meant having a team of five and our newly appointed mentor, Ms Cristina Ladas travel to Boston in June to learn best practices as well as welcoming Ms. Yvette Sandoval to our faculty as the Third and Fourth grade Spanish teacher.  Ms Sandoval is finishing up her teaching certification at Grand Canyon University and this experience should prove very helpful as she begins this exciting career.

We also said “goodbye” to Coach Sojka last May and look forward to welcoming our newest Jesuit Volunteers, Ms Peterka and Ms Sullivan.  Ms Peterka will serve as our new Education Specialist, replacing Ms Brunkorst, and Ms Sullivan will teach physical education three days per week as well as coach and tutor as her schedule permits.

It is also with pleasure that I announce that our enrolment for next year is very “healthy”.  As of this writing we have three closed classrooms and the rest are filling up fast.

This is the year that we shall be preparing for our accreditation visit so if any parents would like to serve on committees, all that you need to do is let me know.

If you are a “Friend of St Matthew School,” don’t forget that we have an extensive need of tutors so if you have a few hours to spare, please do not hesitate to let me know.

I want to thank you for being a part of our little school,

God’s blessings to you and yours,

Mrs. McGowan, Principal
